Vanessa
I have a tag, favorites, where I add some of my favorite photos. I’ve not had an obvious favorite in a while, but this one qualifies. Vanessa, my girlfriend, and I spent this past weekend at Seabrook Island, SC. On both Friday and Sunday mornings, we woke up early, went for a walk on the beach to take in the sunrise. We saw a couple of dolphins, some small sharks, and lots of birds. I had taken my Olympus OM-D with me, but hadn’t used it at all. I had been using the iPhone. However, on Sunday morning, I really wanted to use the camera to take a few shots, so I took it out of its case, and we went to see the sunrise.
As we were walking, naturally, I was falling behind … I was stopping to take pictures, of course. 
Vanessa didn’t get too far ahead. She was patient, waiting for me to catch up, only to see me fall behind again. One one particular time when I had caught up, again, I took a couple of photos of her walking, while I was walking. As carefully as I could, I tried to get the exposure right, even though shooting almost directly into the sun, as well as getting an interesting composition.
When I looked at the screen, I thought that it had potential. When I got it home, loaded it on the computer, and played with it in LR, I knew! Now, putting forth a bit of honesty: Not all of the shot was planned. It was good fortune that the sea foam was there, the light was shining on it just right, and Vanessa had stepped into the foam, sunlight illuminating her foot. It’s not exactly a traditional portrait, as you can’t see her face, but it works for me.
Sometimes, one shot is all it takes, even though this was actually two, but … I’m very happy with the outcome of the shot and the weekend.
